Message I posted last week that I solved an annoying suspension clanking sound that presented itself while taking off from a stop every once in a while. I thought I solved it by changing the adjustable shock setting, thinking that something was happening within the shock itself since the car was on jacks for a long time over the winter.

Well, the clanking is still there when I thought it was gone. I got the car back up in the air and really inspected the suspension. It's clear now the problem is a failed tension rod bushing on the DS. There is a large crack in the rubber. I have Nismo rod bushings that I installed several years back in OEM rods. They don't have but 20 to 25k miles on them, so I didn't suspect them at first. Well, time to replace them again :(

I'm not sure which direction to go now with the rod bushings. I think I have some ES bushings I purchased right before deciding to go with the Nismo's. However, I thought I remember reading some controversy over the ES bushings; not allowing enough play and causing damage to other suspension parts (lower/upper control arm bushings or something). Someone please chime in if that's the case or not.

I could try to find another set of Nismo's but I'm not happy about their short life span. I have done no track events except maybe 2 or 3 drag strip days with 2 passes per day over those several years. The rest of the miles are street driving with some spirited driving sessions but mainly just driving around town and on the highway. I'm not excited about going with the solid adjustable tension rod route. I would like to replace the bushings and keep the oem rods.
